DIRECTIONS FOR CUSTOM-DESIGNED LABELS
If you’re going to design your own label, get together with your group, drink some wine, come up with a great design and send us your print-ready creation. We’ll take care of the printing. If you have a friend who is a graphic artist, enlist their help. If you need a graphic designer, let us know and we can recommend someone (not included in your winemaking package.)
Step 1: Use any software to create your label
You can use any software from Word to online systems like Canva or even ask AI to create it.
Step 2: Use our template if you’re using Word
Click here to get the label templates and directions for using them.
Step 3: Make sure your final label image size is correct
Your final label image size must be 3.5″ X 4.75″ vertical or 4.75” X 3.5″ horizontal.
Step 4: Make sure you’ve included a 1/8″ trimming border
You final label image must include about 1/8″ off all around that can be trimmed off without affecting your final printed label. After trimming, your final printed label will be 3.25 X 4.5″ or 4.5 X 3.25″.
The image below shows a vertical label with a 1/8” trimming border, indicated by the red dotted lines. (The dotted lines are shown just to give you an idea of how much label will be trimmed off; they’re not part of the label image.) Notice that the text and images do not come close to the red dotted lines.

Step 5: Don’t put boxes, text or images close at the trimming border
In the first labe belowl, the black box it too close to edge and will be cut off. The second label has some bleed space to allow proper cutting but could use a littile more wiggle room. The third has no box and looks just as nice and is easier work with.

Step 6: Save to High Quality PDF
Step 7: Check that your final label image size in PDF is 3.5 X 4.75″, either horizontal or vertical.
Step 7: Name your files
We need to know which barrel you’re in, your group leader, the wine you made and the number of labels you want, like this:
Barrel # Group Leader Wine Name #Labels
For example:
2132 Zuchero Chardonnay 256.pdf
If there are multiple people in your group ordering labels use the following format:
Group Leader (Your name) Wine Name #Labels
For example, if you are part of the Jones group and your name is Smith and are ordering your own labels for a quarter barrel:
2131 Jones (Smith) Chardonnay 60.pdf
Barrel numbers and group leaders will be provided by email at bottling time.
